Stearns Weaver Miller’s Public Finance practice helps clients obtain both tax-exempt and taxable financing. We represent corporations, developers, local governments, underwriters, and private bondholders. Our clients have financed the expansion of existing business, multi-family housing projects, water projects, sewers, and roads.
Because regular changes in the nation’s tax laws have a dramatic effect on the area of public finance, we, as counsel, must have an economic as well as a legal understanding of bond transactions. We have handled bond transactions throughout Florida in capacities such as bond counsel and counsel for underwriters, lenders and developers. We are frequently asked to analyze the benefits of refinancing previously issued tax-exempt bonds which, due to outside factors such as interest rate fluctuations and tax law changes, have made earlier transactions economically inefficient.
We work closely with issuers of multifamily housing revenue bonds including the Florida Housing Finance Corporation as well as various local housing finance authorities to ensure successful tax exempt bond closings for our developer clients.
